ChicoBag meets three of the IMPACT Requirements: Individual Responsibility, Materials, and Charitable Proceeds.

ChicoBag’s mission is to combat single-use plastics and strive for zero waste. At the heart of their business is sustainable, reusable, and long-lasting products as an alternative to single-use bags. ChicoBag was first founded by Andy Keller in early 2004 after he was horrified by the magnitude of single-use bags at a local landfill. Andy’s eyes were opened to a threatening concern for the environment, and from then on, he was inspired to invest in a secondhand sewing machine to make the first ChicoBag reusable bag.

Most of their products are ethically-made and high-quality in China. The raw materials are sourced from top tier suppliers, such as Pactics and Segeln, which ensure compliance to the Workplace Code of Conduct and Principles of Fair Labor and Responsible Sourcing and Production. ChicoBag commits to the benchmarks in place as a sustainable manufacturer and retailer through following their Seven-Point Plan For sustainability, namely through initiatives like Certified B Corporation and Certified Climate Neutral.

Today, ChicoBag’s newest campaign is the “Pledge for the Planet” Commitment—leading the corporate world into environmental sustainability beyond their tangible products. With their platform and online presence, ChicoBag strives to achieve social impact through their #EffSingleUse movement, pledge on social responsibility for zero waste, and advocacy regarding plastic pollution.
