Bone beads are used in many tibetan practices. Handcarved to look like skull-shaped mala beads assist one to ponder the definition of life and death. They aid chanters that reflected upon the inevitability of death and also the necessity of accepting lives filled of compassion.

Each rosary contains 108 beads.

Originally, mala beads were used for a special style of meditation known as Japa, which means, “to recite.” … ‘ Today they are used as a tool to help the mind focus on meditation, or count mantras in sets of 108 repetitions.
